A little bit of London history

Fashion Parade in Bond Street

I'm doing a project on Bond Street, and have come across some amazing old photographs and memoirs. This little film I found is of a fashion parade through Bond Street from 1955, consisting of various shots of glamorous models as they walk and pose, each one holding an umbrella with their name on.

"The girls pass builders, window cleaners, painters and milkmen who smile and call out at them. One of the models is dressed as a bride. The girls end up outside the Westbury Hotel."

If you concentrate you can spot the shops which are there today, at 1.46 they pass what looks like an Old Bank on the corner of Stafford Street. And today its the Gucci store!

Yves Saint Laurent SS12

I attended the YSL press day yesterday, to see the new SS12 collection up close. I didn't take too many photos of the clothes, but the colour-pallette was beautifully constructed of mint greens, dusty peach, white, navy and black. Metallic finishes gave the strong fabrics a glinting, solid finish. I especially loved how the golden toe caps on the shoes made the mary-jane style shape a bit more 'battlesome' - not so pretty and sweet. These details are also a lean towards the fetishism, mixed with the straps to wrap tightly around the ankle - but it was done in a subtle way due to the pastel colours. Some of the heels had insanely high platforms though which could look a bit tacky due to the shape, but made with such elegant fabrics and paired with the tailored blazers Stefano Pilati had nothing to worry about.
Little details which caught me eye were: the scalloped finish to one stunning white thick skirt, with little crochet style detailing, signature petal shaped sleeves on a green silk blouse, and a metallic stitching detail trimming the cuff of a jacket sleeve - where the jacket fabric reminded me of my aunts white embossed table cloth and napkin set!
